Learn the basics of scuba diving before enjoying the perfect dive site for first timers, teeming with coral and marine life.
Our representative will welcome you as you arrive at the designated area within the cruise ship terminal, following which you'll take a short ride (1 kilometer) to the dive center in our courtesy shuttle bus.
Upon arrival at the dive center you'll receive a brief orientation of the facilities before joining your PADI dive instructor in the classroom for an introduction to SCUBA diving using visual aids. As our group maximum number is eight participants, you'll receive very personalized attention.
Once the classroom session has been completed you'll be able to store personal items before moving on to our ‘staging area' to be fitted with mask/fins and SCUBA gear. Then it's time to enter shallow sea water where our instructors will assist you in donning your SCUBA equipment before heading to a shallow, protected cove nearby to learn and practice three basic scuba skills and to become accustomed to breathing underwater. Safety and enjoyment are important; we therefore have three certified instructors in the water with a maximum of eight guests. This allows for any personal attention required.
Once everybody's comfortable in the shallow sea water there will be no need to get out again before you make your reef dive; our ‘house reef', Cheeseburger Reef, is just a few fins kicks away, with a maximum depth of 35-40 feet. It consists of many grottoes, overhangs and beautiful corals and teems with marine life. It is common to have large silver tarpon fish swimming with us; we frequently observe sea turtles and stingrays, and there are always plenty of angelfish, butterfly fish, parrot fish, sergeant majors and blue tangs to keep us company. This dive site is the perfect location for first-time divers due to its warm, crystal-clear water, lack of current and ease of access.
Your dive will finish right back where you started, in shallow water, where your instructors will assist with removing gear. There are showers and changing rooms available and a full restaurant above where you can sit and enjoy a beverage and lunch as you overlook the Caribbean Sea. Or, if you'd prefer to spend the rest of your day lounging in the sunshine, we have a small beach alongside the dive center that also gives access to some great snorkelling.
Once you've completed the ‘Discover Scuba Diving' program, you will be registered with PADI (we are PADI 5 star resort). If you decide to sign up for the full PADI Open Water Diver Course, the skills you learned with us can be used as credit and you will also have free access to the first online module of the PADI eLearning course.
