Yep – it’s THAT season! Given all the beautiful weather we’ve been enjoying, it’s easy to forget that the pesky FOG SEASON is upon us. And, between October and April, Galveston can (and historically has) become one of the foggiest places on the Texas Coast.
Warm days, cool nights, and in it creeps – shrouding everything in its path – including cruise ships! What to do? Well, first of all, If you’re planning to head out this season, learn the two key words: “patience” and “awareness.” Lorraine knows it’s hard not to rush to the port - after all – you’ve planned, you’ve paid, you’re packed and now? Well take a few minutes to become aware - check with your cruise line, and log onto Galveston.com/cruisecam to learn firsthand what’s going on.
You may find that “all is well” or that the ship you’re so anxious to board is sitting in line somewhere in the channel waiting for the mist to lift before it can even dock. And – that ship is filled with luggage to be unloaded and passengers to be debarked, many of whom may have missed their flights or have long drives home – it’s the perfect formula for what Lorraine refers to “fog angst!”
Don’t let it get to you....be patient....don’t try to check in early or you may be standing in the dampness outside the terminal “schlepping” your luggage and going nowhere. Now that’s a great start to a vacation – LOL!
A better plan is to “go with the flow” –enjoy Galveston.....find a pub or restaurant – maybe watch some football and sip a “brewski” or two while checking with your cruise line or joining the discussion on cruisecam for the latest updates.
And if you’re one of those cruisers arriving late – if you missed your flight or you just don’t feel up to a long drive home – why not spend a stress-free evening in one of our fine hotels? Visit www.galveston.com for lodging options.
Yes, it’s frustrating. Yes, it’s disappointing. Is it what you would have preferred? Certainly not! But it is what it is. Don’t let “fog angst” ruin your vacation...turn it into an adventure.
