If you have never taken a Caribbean cruise from the Port of Galveston, it may be time for a grand Gulf adventure. Here are a few logistical tips to get you out on the water with peace of mind.

 

 

Q: What cruise lines depart from Galveston Island?
A: The Port of Galveston serves as the home port for several cruise ships, from Carnival to Disney to Royal Caribbean International. One of the newest of the bunch is the Disney Wonder, which sails from November through early the following year, making it the only seasonal ship on the island. The Carnival Vista offers year-round departures along with the Carnival Dream and Carnival Freedom. Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas offers year-round itineraries and was joined by the Enchantment of the Seas in 2019.

Q: Where can I park and what are the rates?
A: The Port of Galveston itself with lots at Harborside Drive and 33rd Street. Several hotels offer free parking with an overnight stay, such as the Hilton Galveston Island Resort, Holiday Inn Resort, The San Luis Resort, Four Points by Sheraton, Hotel Galvez & Spa, The Tremont House and Moody Gardens Hotel & Spa, to name some. Prices usually depend on the length of your cruise. At the Port of Galveston, a four-day trip is priced at $45, five days at $50, six days at $60, seven days at $70, eight days at $75, 10 days at $80 and 14 days at $100. To book a parking spot, head to galveston.com/cruiseparking.

Q: Where are the terminals located?
A: There are two terminals on the island. Terminal 1 is located at 2502 Harborside Drive, and Terminal 2 is at 2702 Harborside Drive.

Q: Are there shuttle services to my terminal?
A: With an overnight stay at the Hilton Galveston Island Resort, Holiday Inn Resort and The San Luis Resort you are offered a free shuttle service. The Comfort Inn & Suites charges a $15 round-trip fee and Moody Gardens Hotel requires a $20 round-trip fee.

Q: What attractions can I visit before/ after my cruise?
A: Head to Pier 21, which is a three-minute drive or a seven-minute walk from the Port of Galveston; attractions include the Pier 21 Theater for documentary of The Great Storm, dolphin tours and a look at the Ocean Star Drilling Rig & Museum, the Texas Seaport Museum and 1877 Tall Ship ELISSA, as well as restaurants with exquisite seafood. Also, located across the street from the post is the Historic Downtown Strand District, which features blocks of stores, restaurants, museums, art galleries and more!
